In 1936, whilst attending the premiere of Joseph Comell's surrealist film Rose Hobart in New York Dali put on quite the show. The premiere was timed to take place at the same time as an exhibition of Dali's work and during the showing he leapt into action.

Filled with anger at what he was seeing Dali knocked the projector to the floor shouting to the stunned crowd “My idea for a film is exactly that, and I was going to propose it to someone who would pay to have it made.. never wrote it down or told anyone, but it is as if he had stolen it!”. It has been claimed, in a fit of rage he screamed "He stole it from my subconscious!"

For the curious, the film in question can now be watched online in full for free here: https://www.filmpreservation.org/preserved-films/screening-room/rose-hobart-1936#
